She was presented the certificate of election by the election officer and Vidhan Sabha secretary Mukesh Singhal on Friday evening after the end of the time for withdrawal of nomination. Saini was elected unopposed since the Congress did not field any candidate for the seat.
Later, Saini was welcomed at the BJP State office by the party’s State general secretary (Organisation) Ajaey Kumar, Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama and other party leaders. Speaking on the occasion, she thanked the leaders and workers of the party. She said that she will continue to serve the society her whole life, stating that social service is in her blood.
Ajaey Kumar said that Saini had consistently worked for OBCs and women which is why the party had sent her to the Rajya Sabha. She now has the platform of Rajya Sabha to fulfill her resolve to serve the people and it is certain that she will serve the nation and State through the parliament, he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that Saini will replace Congress MP Pradeep Tamta whose tenure in the Rajya Sabha ends next month.
