Salt MLA Surendra Singh Jeena dies of Covid-19

The BJP MLA from Salt constituency in Almora district, Surendra Singh Jeena who was undergoing treatment for Covid-19 in a hospital in New Delhi, breathed his last early on Thursday morning. His demise came a few days after the death of his wife earlier in October.

The death of the 50-year old MLA has elicited condolences from the governor Baby Rani Maurya, chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, BJP State president Banshidhar Bhagat and former CM Harish Rawat among other leaders across the political spectrum and members of the society.

At a meet held at the BJP State office to pay homage to Jeena, CM Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the state has lost an energetic and visionary leader with Jeena’s demise. He was always counted among the active MLAs and was known for raising the issues of the deprived sections of society and working hard for the development of his constituency.

Rawat said, “Elected for the third consecutive time from Salt constituency in 2017, an active party worker and my younger brother Surendra is no more with us, which seems hard to believe. Anyone who had met him even once would surely remember his cordial behaviour and positive thinking. He used to make his points in the Vidhan Sabha in a beautiful and sharp manner. He had the unique skill of connecting everyone and was quite popular in his constituency. He also had a unique capacity to ensure completion of development works related to his constituency.”

Expressing grief at Jeena’s demise, Bhagat said that it was an irreparable loss for the party and the society. The State has lost an energetic and dedicated leader with Jeena’s demise, he said.
