Sanitation workers still deprived of full honorarium in U’khand despite CM’s order

Most of the sanitation workers of municipal corporations in the State are yet to receive honorarium at the rate of Rs 500 per day as announced by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami earlier this year. The outsourced agencies deployed by the corporations who primarily hire the sanitation workers are allegedly not paying this amount to them despite CM’s orders.
An RTI activist and Kashipur resident, Nadeem Uddin has made these allegations on the basis of the reports received from all municipal corporations under Right To Information (RTI) act. He said that he has asked the corporations about compliance of CM’s order of paying sanitation workers honorarium at the rate of Rs 500 daily and none of them provided complete information. He said that some corporations have provided no information at all on the matter but he has appealed for it again.
According to information provided by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD), the outsourced employees are getting paid as per old rates of Rs 350 per day by the outsourced agencies. Provident fund (PF) of 13 per cent and 3.25 per cent under Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) are also deducted from their honorarium. He said that all sanitation workers under the municipal corporations of Kotdwar and Rishikesh are also getting paid the honorarium as per the RTI report. The PF and ESI are being paid separately by the outsourced agencies. However the agencies are profiting hugely from the increased allowance of workers too as they are getting paid more service charges by the corporations, said the activist. He said that many have alleged such agencies of several irregularities besides exploitation of sanitation workers several times and the government should discontinue this outsourcing system in corporations.
