Sanskrit is in the DNA of Indianness: Governor

The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has said that Sanskrit has an important contribution in the unity of the country. He said that the knowledge encapsulated in the Sanskrit language has the solution for every challenge of the society. The governor was delivering the convocation address during the 10th convocation ceremony of the Uttarakhand Sanskrit University in Haridwar on Saturday. Terming Sanskrit as the basis of India’s rich culture and the voice of the nation’s soul, the governor said that the language is the DNA of Indianness. He stressed on the innovation in the language along with the conservation of the ancient manuscripts. Appreciating the achievements of the Sanskrit university for promotion of the language, the governor opined that more opportunities should be given to the girls so that the wisdom of Sanskrit reaches every household.
Expressing happiness at the setting up of four research chairs in the university the governor said that it is a good decision.
In his address the vice chancellor of the university, Dinesh Chandra Shastri said that the university should be brought under the higher education department of the state government. He also presented an account of the achievements of the university, vision and future challenges.
The VC of the Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi, Srinivas Barkhedi said that the Sanskrit universities should be developed into the centres of Indian knowledge system. He suggested that Sanskrit should be taken to the masses using modern technology.
In the convocation the governor conferred degrees to the students. He also presented D Lit to the VC of Patanjali university Acharya Balkrishna for Ayurveda and conservation of Indian knowledge system and to educationist Poonam Suri for social service and spread of Vedic education.
