Sapped of strength, Vinesh retires from int’l wrestling career

Unable to come out of the shock of her overweight disqualification from the 50 kg women wrestling gold medal bout in the Paris Olympics, the 29-year-old Vinesh Phogat decided to hang up her boots. She said she did not have strength for more and so she was retiring from international wrestling career. Also, she sought forgiveness from all who supported her in her hour of agony and anguish.
“I don’t have any more strength now. Goodbye wrestling 2001-2024. I shall be indebted to you all. Forgive (me),” wrote the two-time world championship bronze-medallist.
Her decision shocked all having come a day after she appealed against her disqualification from the Olympic finals in the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), demanding she be awarded a joint silver medal.
