Saras Mela to begin on October 18

The Dehradun chief development officer Abhinav Shah checked final preparations of Saras Mela which will commence on October 18. It will be a 10-day festival that will be held at Rangers Ground and will run until October 27. Shah inspected the Rangers Ground on Thursday and reviewed all arrangements and issued necessary instructions to ensure that all preparations are completed on time. He emphasised the goal of making the fair a grand and divine experience for attendees.
Shah directed officials to enhance essential facilities including drinking water, sanitation, parking, fire safety and electrical arrangements to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for visitors. Security measures, including entry and exit protocols, will be tightened to maintain a safe environment throughout the fair, Shah said. He informed that the Saras Mela will feature a blend of folk culture and diverse traditions, with stalls showcasing the culinary delights and traditional attire of Uttarakhand, along with displays by self-help groups from various states. A total of 186 stalls will be set up, including 136 from Uttarakhand and 50 from other states.
He said that cultural performances will also be held every evening that will offer visitors a taste of regional and national artistic talent. The line up of cultural programmes includes a performance by Pirates of Varanasi and Team Tornado followed by singer Pritam Bhartwan. It will also feature artists such as Kundan Chauhan presenting Jaunsari folk, Kishan Mahipal and Kulanand Ghansala and his team performing Ramleela followed by Gajendra Rana and Poonam Sati among others.
