In a setback to the Muslim side in the sensitive Kashi Viswanath Temple-Gyanvapi Mosque (Varanasi) case, the Supreme Court refused to stop prayers by the Hindu devotees in the southern cellar of the masjid premises on the Muslim side’s plea. However, the court ordered maintenance of the status quo on the religious observances by both Hindu and Muslim devotees within the mosque precincts until the case is finally decided.
