School controversy wake-up call for parents

Wednesday, 26 April 2023 | PNS I DEHRADUN

Following a controversy in a local school, people in Dehradun are stressing on the need for parents to remain alert about activities in the school their children study in. Recently, Sri Chaitanya Techno School in Dehradun allegedly directed its students to dress in a particular way to mark Eid-ul-Fitr. Indira Nagar councillor Meera Kathait claimed, “The school principal accepted that Urdu language is taught as a mandatory subject to students of classes I to V.”  She further claimed that the principal of the school was intimidating the parents and children against speaking the truth. Sources claim that in the past too the school administration had restricted students from celebrating Hindu festivals like Holi.

A parent, Sushma Verma said, “Influencing a student to change religion is completely wrong. Apart from the school, the parents are also responsible as they did not act on time for example against Urdu being allegedly taught as a mandatory subject in the school.”

Another parent Shashi Kumar said, “No one can force anybody to change or follow another religion. The parents should not fear the school authority and speak the truth in front of the public. However these incidents motivate other parents to remain alert and take timely action to prevent the situation from escalating.”
