School Education Dept to provide land for building colleges

In an example of inter-departmental coordination, the School Education department has agreed to hand over its land to the Higher Education department for construction of new colleges. A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting of the officers of the two departments at Vidhan Sabha on Friday. The meeting was chaired by Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat. He said that the State government is committed to improve the quality of higher education in Uttarakhand and in this context it had decided to open colleges in all the blocks of the State last year. A decision to open 10 new colleges was taken and land for most of them was allotted. However the land for the colleges in Suddhowala (Dehradun), Ramgarh ( Nainital), Mori (Uttarkashi) and Khadi (Tehri) was not available. Rawat said that a decision to hand over land of the school education department to the higher education department for construction of these colleges was taken. He said the senior officers of the departments have been directed to release the no objection certificate (NOC) and expedite the process of land transfer. The DMs of the district concerned have also been asked to speed up the process. The minister said that the higher education department has been asked to prepare the DPR of the buildings of these colleges and hand them over to the state administration.
The director of Higher Education CD Soontha, director of School Education Seema Jaunsari, RUSA adviser MSM Rawat, additional director of Higher Education, A S Uniyal and others were present in the meeting.
