School running sans recognition, SCPCR directs CEO to take immediate action
The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has received a complaint from a local of Selaqui area of Sahaspur, Dehradun stating that a private school in the area with about 400 students is running without any recognition from the State government for the last many years. According to the letter of the complainant, he filed a complaint in Chief Minister (CM) Helpline after which the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Sahaspur investigated the matter. As stated in the complainant’s letter, the investigation report of BEO clearly shows that the school is not recognised by the state government but no action has been taken by the education department so far. According to the chairperson of the commission Usha Negi, the BEO has explained this situation in a letter to the Dehradun chief education officer (CEO) Asha Rani Painuly adding that the name of some students are registered in some other schools when they are actually attending the said school in Selaqui. The investigation officer has even talked to some students who told the officer that they are students of Class X in the said school but their names are registered in other local schools, informed Negi. As informed by her, a notice was sent from the CEO office to the principal of the said school last month and it was also directed by her to take action against the school administration but so far, no action has been taken against the school and it is still running. Taking cognisance of the complaint, Negi has directed Painuly to take immediate action against the school management and asked her to submit the report in the commission as well as in CM Helpline office within seven days.
