In view of the yellow warning regarding the possibility of heavy rainfall in Dehradun on Tuesday issued by the State meteorological centre, the Dehradun district magistrate Sonika declared a holiday for all schools and Anganwadi centres. Besides this, she also held a meeting with all sub divisional magistrates and Tehsildars, and issued instructions regarding the heavy rainfall forecast. She instructed all SDMs and officials of linear departments to remain alert.
The DM also directed them to relocate people residing near rivers and streams to safer locations and to remain active in disaster-prone areas. She also directed officials to ensure swift disbursement of relief funds to the affected families in case of a disaster. Any disaster related information should be promptly communicated to the disaster control room and departments concerned should work in coordination, keeping their phones accessible. No negligence will be tolerated from any department regarding monsoon related issues, she added.
Besides this, the police also resumed alerting people living near rivers using loudhailers on Monday morning. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that he has directed all police stations in-charges to keep police teams equipped with disaster relief tools ready for any emergency situation.
The respective police station in-charges are regularly informing people settled near rivers to remain cautious during the rains. Police have also been regularly patrolling near rivers and streams and continuously warning residents to stay alert and avoid going near the water bodies, he said.
