The chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), Geeta Khanna directed the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Pradeep Rawat to ensure that all schools in Dehradun display the Uttrakhand child rights poster provided by the commission. She said this during a meeting which was recently organised by the commission with the Education department.
During the meeting, Khanna said that the commission had recently conducted inspections of various government and non-government schools in Dehradun. These inspections revealed that many schools were not in compliance with the commission’s orders regarding student safety and other related matters. In view of this, the commission organised a meeting with the Education department to discuss the issues and provide guidance on how to ensure that each school followed the necessary guidelines, she added.
Khanna said that she instructed Rawat to direct all schools in Dehradun to install a complaint box on their premises. Additionally, all schools should form a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and post the names and telephone numbers of the PTA president and members on the school gate. She also emphasised the importance of ensuring that school toilets are clean and hygienic for students. Further, Khanna stressed on the need to check and ensure that schools are following the norms of the National Education Policy-2020 regarding the weight of school bags. She also directed the CEO that all schools, both government and non-government, should form various types of committees, including the POCSO committee, anti-bullying committee and anti-drug committee.
