The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has asked the Education department to provide the relevant details following the mapping of Madarsas in the Dehradun region. The said direction has been given in response to the recent surprise inspection of Madarsas conducted by the chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
Talking to The Pioneer, the chairperson of SCPCR Geeta Khanna highlighted the existence of several unregistered Madarsas in Dehradun operating without proper registration under the Madarsa Board. She stated that she has personally encountered unregistered Madarsas where Hindu children are also enrolled. In light of these findings and the recent inspection by NCPCR, the commission has instructed the education department to conduct a mapping of all Madarsas in Dehradun and submit a detailed report to the commission, she added.
She further said the commission expects that the Education department will submit the Madarsas’ report in July, following the school’s response after the summer break. Further, she mentioned that as a precautionary measure, the commission has initiated inspections of the Madarsas in Dehradun. If the commission detects any suspicious activities during these inspections, it will take stringent actions against those involved, she said.
It will be recalled that the chairman of NCPCR, Priyank Kanoongo, during his recent visit to Dehradun, conducted a surprise inspection at two Madarsas in Dehradun. The inspection revealed that many children, particularly from States like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, were studying there. Additionally, one of the Madarsas was found to be charging illegal fees from its students. Considering this, he had directed the departments concerned to perform mapping of the Madarsas located in Dehradun.
