The chairperson of the State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Geeta Khanna expressed her concern about students studying private coaching institute material in school. She raised this concern during an inspection which was recently conducted by the commission at Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) ITBP.
Regarding this, Khanna said that in a surprise inspection of government and non-governmental schools in Dehradun, the commission visited the KV school and asked students about their rights, which they appeared to be unaware of. Additionally, the commission observed that the first thing found on the principal’s table were books given by Aakash coaching institute. When questioned, the principal revealed that Aakash Institute occasionally holds classes in the school to provide tips to the children, she said.
Khanna expressed concern over private coaching institutes coming to schools to talk to children and share private books with them, seeing it as a means of advertisement. Regarding an earlier inspection of a private school in Dehradun, where students were observed carrying heavy school bags, she said that the school failed to present its documents. As a result, the commission has once again allocated one day to present the necessary documents. She pointed out that the registers presented by the school seemed to be falsely created to mislead the commission. If any of the documents is found to be not up to standard, the commission will instruct the chief education officer Pradeep Rawat to take necessary action against the school as per the rules, she said.
