SCPCR directs CEO to refund fees of RTE students from school funds
The SCPCR chief Usha Negi directed CEO Asha Rani Painuly to pay the parents of the students studying in a private school of Dehradun under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act after the school failed to refund the fees since three years. According to Negi, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) received a complaint that a private school charged fees from the students studying under RTE Act about three years back which the school administration denied. However, the investigation committee stated in the report clearly that as per the evidence, the school charged fees of RTE students and they should be paid back by the school administration but nothing has been done in this matter since then, said Negi. Considering this, Negi instructed chief education officer (CEO) Painuly to pay the parents of such RTE students from the funds reimbursed to the schools by the education department to admit students under the RTE act.
Meanwhile, the commission received the complaint against the same school recently that the school administration has suspended a student of Class VII after his parents failed to deposit the school fee since April. Negi informed that the complainant has stated that his financial condition is quite bad since the pandemic and he also had an accident recently due to which he could not deposit the school fees. Stating that a child cannot be made to suffer due to fees issues as per the orders of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), Negi directed Painuly to take action against the matter and submit the report within one week in the commission.
