The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has directed the management of Sun Valley School based in Dehradun to give admission to 25 students under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in the institution within one week. Member, SCPCR, Vinod Kaparwan said that recently the parents of 25 students had approached the commission and informed it that the said school had refused to admit their children under the RTE Act. After taking cognizance of the matter, the commission had summoned the representatives of the school to its office along with their documents, he added.
“The school management informed us that they have written an application to the district chief education officer (CEO) seeking removal of their school from the RTE list. However, the CEO informed the commission that though he had received the application he was yet to act on it. Considering all the information collected on this matter, the commission has directed the Sun Valley School to enroll 25 students under the RTE Act within a week,” said Kaparwan.
He further said that if the said school would fail to act on the given direction the commission would urge the CEO to revoke the school’s affiliation at the earliest. “Many such cases have come to the notice of the commission where the private schools are not dealing properly with those students enrolled under the RTE Act. The commission is, however, committed to intervene on behalf of these students,” he added.
