SCPCR holds meeting on child safety during disaster

The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) organised a meeting concerning the safety of children from disaster here on Thursday. The officials in the meeting discussed the preparation of guidelines on the safety of children from disasters like earthquake, landslide and fire in the state. Officials of the police department, fire services, health department, women empowerment and child development department were present in the meeting.
The SCPCR chief Dr Geeta Khanna instructed the departmental officials in the meeting to take necessary action for protection of the children from the disasters like landslides, earthquakes and fires. In addition to this she instructed the education department to take action related to the fire safety in the primary schools and junior high schools. Khanna further ordered the education department to check whether all schools are following the child safety norms and have the self-declaration certificate. The education department officials were directed to provide the school report within three months.
The fire service officials were instructed in the meeting to check the private coaching institutes, especially their NOC certificates. A campaign should be undertaken to ensure the verification of all the norms in all the institutions related to child safety, she said. Deputy inspector general of fire service, Nivedita Kukreti talked about the construction of reservoirs in the mountainous areas in view of the Tyuni fire incident. SCPCR member Deepak Gulati said that before awarding the NOC to the schools, the education department must ensure safety standards and act only after ensuring all the parameters of the security standards by establishing coordination with the departments concerned.
