Taking cognisance of a complaint regarding the mental and financial harassment of parents and students by a private school, the chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), Usha Negi has written to the chief education officer (CEO) of Dehradun to look into the matter. In the last few days, the commission has been receiving many complaints regarding the private school management forcing parents to deposit fees that include all the charges besides the tuition fee. One of the complaints was recently received by Negi in which the complainant, Pravin Kumar Saini informed that when a private school demanded increased charges stating it to be the tuition fee, some parents opposed this move. In turn, the school management did not issue the report card of the children of these parents. Negi said that as per the law, it is an offense to force any parent or children for fees submission in the current pandemic. No child can be denied education or admission in any school on the grounds of incapability of a parent to deposit school fee during a pandemic, informed Negi. She instructed the CEO to take cognisance of the matter while considering both the complainant as well as the school management and submit the report to the commission within 10 days.
