A senior student at a prominent boys boarding school in the Dalanwala area of Dehradun has been accused of sexually harassing a junior student, along with subjecting him to ragging. The matter came to light when the victim’s family discovered his plight after bringing him back from Dehradun to their home State of Assam, where they lodged a complaint. The family reportedly stated in the complaint that a senior student of the boarding school allegedly sexually harassed the boy and repeatedly bullied him, leading to significant distress. His change in behaviour, including withdrawal and silence, reportedly raised concern in his family. When the family visited Dehradun recently, they noticed the boy’s mental condition had deteriorated and questioned him thoroughly. During this time, the boy reportedly revealed the details of his harassment and the ongoing ragging he was subjected to by his senior. It is being said that the parents informed the school administration about the incident, but reportedly, no significant action was taken by the school. Considering this, the parents reportedly decided to withdraw their son from the school and got his transfer certificate. They have enrolled him in a new school. The family also reported the matter to the local police in Assam. The Assam police registered a zero FIR and transferred the case to Dehradun for further investigation. The Dehradun superintendent of police (City) Pramod Kumar told The Pioneer that the police are investigating the matter and are gathering evidence to investigate the allegations thoroughly. The police are yet to approach the school administration regarding the investigation, he added. Meanwhile, several members of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) also protested against the school in Dehradun claiming that the school administration failed to take appropriate action in the matter.
