SCPCR seeks report on private school fee hike

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has asked the Education department to submit a report regarding a private school in Dehradun following a complaint about a fee hike. Stating this, the chairperson of the SCPCR, Geeta Khanna said that the commission recently received a complaint against the private school, which included allegations of increased fees and fee collection practices that violate the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

In response, the commission has directed the district education officer to conduct a joint inspection to assess the lack of basic facilities and the reported fee hike at the school and to submit a report as soon as possible. Khanna expressed strong discontent with the school administration over illegal practices, such as composite fees. If the school fails to comply with regulations, a show-cause notice will be issued to revoke their No Objection Certificate (NOC) for operation, she said.

The commission also addressed a complaint concerning a Madarsa operating in Muslim Basti area. The complaint raised concerns about the future of the children, claiming that the school lacks official recognition due to non-compliance with necessary standards. This has caused difficulties for the children in gaining admission to other schools. Khanna instructed the Madarsa representatives to obtain recognition by fulfilling the required standards as soon as possible. Until it is recognised, the block education officer should assist in facilitating the admission of these children into other recognised schools, she said.
