The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has summoned officials of the Welham Boys’ School to appear before the commission along with relevant documents in response to an alleged incident of ragging by a senior student in the school. Informing about this, SCPCR member Vinod Kaparwan stated that the commission became aware of the incident and conducted a surprise inspection at the school on Saturday. He informed that the principal of the school, Sangeeta Ken, that the complainant is the son of an officer living in another State and the complaint relates to the alleged physical abuse of his son. A zero FIR was registered in Shillong and transferred to the Dalanwala police station here for investigation. Apart from this, she did not agree about the recent alleged incident, he added.
Kaparwan further informed that during the inspection, the SCPCR also examined other factors, including the POCSO committee, complaint cell and child helpline. The school has been asked to appear before the commission promptly with relevant documents. Kaparwan noted that such incidents are increasing in the State, with a rise in occurrences over the last six months.
