The State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has directed the Education department to ensure that all children currently studying in illegal madarsas are promptly provided education in recognised and suitable schools. This direction follows the State government’s move to close down illegal madarsas operating without the necessary approvals.
Informing about this, the SCPCR chairwoman Geeta Khanna said that the commission welcomed the State government’s decision to shut down these unapproved madarsas. She stated that this action aligns with the State’s commitment to ensure that all educational institutions adhere to the prescribed standards and regulations, particularly regarding the welfare and protection of children’s educational rights.
In light of this development, the commission has told the Education department to see to it that children should be transferred to nearby and suitable schools in accordance with the guidelines established under the National Education Policy (NEP). The NEP promotes inclusive, equitable and quality education for all children and the commission urged strict adherence to this policy during the transfer process. Khanna also said that the commission asked the department for the immediate transfer of children studying in madarsas from other states to prevent any disruption in their education. These children can be admitted to recognised schools and where necessary, to schools with hostels, such as Subhash Chandra Bose School, to ensure their safety and well-being, she said.
She further added that the welfare of every child is of utmost importance to the commission and their right to quality education cannot be compromised under any circumstances. The commission will continue to monitor the implementation of these measures to ensure that no child is denied their right to education, she said.
