The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) plans to host a national workshop in Doon aimed at viewing and advocating for child rights from a national perspective. Informing this, the chairperson of SCPCR, Geeta Khanna said that the commission was preparing to organise the national workshop on child rights and their protection. She further said that the SCPCR chairperson from each State, along with member secretaries, would be invited to participate in this national workshop. “The primary objective of organising such a workshop is to firm up new policies that will be instrumental in ensuring children’s welfare in every state. In course of the workshop, the chairpersons will discuss the existing policies being implemented in their respective states to improve the conditions for children and present new concepts and potential legal shifts in policy frameworks,” she said, adding that the previous workshop was organised in Udaipur by the Rajasthan SCPCR last year.
Khanna said with concern that they had been noticing a spike in cases of child labour and crimes perpetrated against children. “However, the primary factor behind this surge is the intensified scrutiny conducted by the SCPCR and our continuous efforts to raise child rights awareness. Besides, we have been diligently conducting awareness programmes in every district of the State to curb the crime rate involving children,” she added.
