A member of a trekking group on the Tungnath trek in Rudraprayag district fell ill on Saturday due to which they had to spend the night there. On Sunday morning the Ukhimath police station informed the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) about this. On receiving this information, the SDRF rescue team departed for the Tungnath trek. After trekking for about three hours, the SDRF team reached the sick youth. The rescue team members found the condition of the youth to be bad. He was unable to walk due to exhaustion and ill-health. The trekker identified as 32 year old Rahul Gawa from Gurugram, Haryana was administered primary treatment by the SDRF team. The rescue team then carried the man on a stretcher and trekked back to Chopta where the friends of the youth were already waiting for him. As his condition improved on reaching Chopta, the rescued trekker thanked the SDRF team for coming to his rescue.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Tungnath trek in the high altitude region of Rudraprayag attracts a number of visitors. Some of them face difficulties due to the comparatively high altitude and difficult terrain.
