Five teams carry out rescue work in Laksar

A pregnant woman who was stuck at her home in Laksar town of Haridwar district due to severe waterlogging was safely transported to hospital by State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Thursday. The commandant of SDRF Manikant Mishra said that they received information that a pregnant woman was stuck in her house located in the Laksar market area. Due to severe waterlogging in that area, her family members were unable to take her to the hospital and her health was deteriorating.

Considering the sensitivity of the situation, Mishra, said that a rescue team of SDRF was immediately sent to the pregnant woman’s house to rescue her. The team reached the spot with the help of a raft but it had to face some difficulties in getting the pregnant woman on to the raft. The woman was finally able to get into the raft after which, she was taken out of the waterlogged area and was sent to the hospital for treatment. The woman and her family members expressed their gratitude to the SDRF and the police for providing timely assistance in a critical time.

Several areas of the town are witnessing a flood-like situation where several houses can be seen submerged in water. The severe waterlogging has severely affected the normal life of locals for the past two days. Mishra also held a field inspection of the affected area on Thursday. He said that a total of five rescue teams from Rishikesh, Haridwar, Dakpathar, Dehradun and Jolly Grant are carrying out relief and rescue work on a war footing in Laksar’s waterlogged areas along with a paramedic’s team. Mishra said that SDRF’s teams have rescued many people stranded in Adarsh Colony, Main Bazaar and Basedi Road of Laksar area and several others were shifted to a safe place with the help of rafts and necessary equipment.

The teams also rescued a four-member family consisting of a pregnant woman, an elderly couple and a 12-year-old boy from a submerged house in Pipli village of the town on Thursday and shifted them to safe places.
