The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescued 400 people stranded near Delhi Bend in Pithoragarh in the wee hours of Sunday. The officials informed that the Pithoragarh District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) informed the SDRF team about 400 people stranded in the area due to road blockage caused due to heavy rain late on Saturday. Responding promptly to the call, the rescue team, led by sub inspector Ram Singh Bora reached the site. Upon arrival, the team found that all the passengers were stuck near Delhi Bend, two kilometres uphill from Pithoragarh. The officials said that the team started the rescue operation and safely evacuated all the stranded individuals within a few hours. During the operation, a sick person had to be rescued via stretcher and was immediately transported to the hospital in another vehicle. They said that the blockage on the main route, caused by debris, had disrupted traffic but was quickly cleared with the help of excavators, restoring normalcy. The SDRF’s commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi said that the SDRF rescue team’s timely and effective response not only ensured the safe evacuation of the 400 stranded people but also stood as a testament to their readiness and efficiency in critical situations.
