Gazetted and non-gazetted officers of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) will get a risk allowance of Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 respectively for conducting rescue operations at altitudes above 11,000 feet. The State government will also form the sixth company of SDRF in which one-third women personnel will be appointed on priority basis.

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said this at the inauguration event of the newly constructed SDRF Headquarters and Fire Station at Jollygrant on Monday. He said that the government has decided to provide the said amounts as risk allowance to SDRF personnel on the lines of other paramilitary forces. He said that the government is also working on increasing participation of women in SDRF to carry out rescue operations and disaster management works. He said that the government will also increase the time period of SDRF personnel deputation from seven to 10 years. He said that the newly constructed SDRF Training Centre and Headquarters was built at the budget of Rs 144.43 crore where various activities in terms of training and disaster management will be carried out efficiently. He said that the SDRF plays a crucial role in carrying out rescue operations and providing relief to people by discharging their duties with valour and dedication.

SDRF has carried out over 3,000 rescue operations rescuing over 12,000 injured besides recovering nearly 2,000 bodies, said Dhami. He said that the SDRF has created a unique identity in the minds of tourists and pilgrims arriving in the State every year besides the local people. The director general of police Ashok Kumar said on the occasion that five companies of SDRF are currently working across the State.  SDRF teams are currently deployed in 39 places of the State too, added Kumar. Member of Parliament from Haridwar and former CM Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said that strengthening SDRF is quite necessary as Uttarakhand is a disaster prone state.
