In an important initiative to promote transparency and a quality examination system in higher education, Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University has launched the scanning-based system of onscreen evaluation of answer sheets at the university headquarters. The university is implementing the digital onscreen evaluation system in a phased manner from this academic session, making the examination evaluation process more modern, secure and timely, said the
vice-chancellor, N K Joshi, adding that the new digital system has been introduced for the evaluation of answer sheets of students studying in the 236 colleges affiliated with the university.
“The effective use of technological resources has become essential for higher education institutions these days and my university is continuously working in this direction,” he said.
He further said that under the new onscreen evaluation system, answer sheets would be scanned and made available on a secure digital platform, through which subject experts and teachers would conduct onscreen evaluations using their authorised login IDs. “This will bring transparency to the evaluation process, reduce the time required to declare results and make the work process more streamlined and effective,” he stressed.
Sharing further details, he stated that the implementation of a scanning-based evaluation system would significantly improve the safe preservation and management of answer sheets. “The traditional system would present numerous practical challenges related to the transportation, maintenance and distribution of answer sheets. However, the digital system will effectively address these issues. Furthermore, a digital record of each answer sheet will be preserved, making the verification and re-examination process simpler and more transparent in the future,” he commented.
