SEC Kumar updates Governor on ULB election preparations

The State Election Commissioner Sushil Kumar met the Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh at Raj Bhavan on Saturday. The SEC informed the Governor about the preparations being made for the upcoming elections of the urban local bodies (ULB0 in the State.

 He said that the elections will be held for 11 municipal corporations, 43 municipal councils and 46 nagar panchayats in the state. Voting will be held on January 23 and counting of votes will be completed on January 25.

The SEC said that the State Election Commission has given priority to digitization in the ULB elections this time. All voter lists have been displayed on the official website of the commission, so that the general public can easily get necessary information. He said that for the first time, pink booths have been set up in some municipal corporations, where all the members of the polling team will be women. He further informed that for the first time, the results of the counting of votes will be displayed directly on the commission’s website.

The Governor appreciated the efforts of the commission to ensure fair and transparent elections through digitization in the electoral process. He said that steps like digitization of voter lists and online display of counting results will strengthen transparency, accountability and credibility in the electoral process. The Governor suggested that better documentation of the electoral process should be done and personnel who perform well in election work should also be felicitated.
