Secretary inspects GDMC hospital in view of dengue spurt

Amid a rapid increase in the number of dengue patients the Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar conducted a surprise inspection of the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital on Tuesday. The secretary first visited the blood bank of the hospital and directed that the process of Random Donor Platelets (RDP) and Single Donor Platelets (SDP) should continue 24 hours a day.
The principal of GDMC, Dr Ashutosh Sayana said that the second express machine for SDP which makes jumbo packs will get installed in the hospital within 10 days. The secretary also inspected the dengue and paediatrics ward of the hospital. The dengue wards has 67 beds while 30 beds in paediatrics ward are reserved for dengue patients. Kumar directed the hospital authorities that there should be a coordination between the medicine and paediatrics department regarding dengue patients.
The secretary said that 100 beds have been kept in reserve in GDMC hospital for dengue patients and the number of beds will be increased when required. He said that the number of normal dengue patients is larger than critical patients. On a stern note the secretary said that action will be taken on the blood banks, hospitals and labs charging more than stipulated fees in the name of treatment and for platelets. The director general of state health services, the principal of GDMC and chief medical officer of Dehradun were present during the inspection.
