The senior police officials held a comprehensive security briefing on Friday at the Dehradun Police Line ahead of the two-day visit of the Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar to Dehradun on August 31. The briefing was aimed at ensuring tight security arrangements at the event venues and along the VVIP route. During the briefing, the inspector general of police, Garhwal Range, KS Nagnyal and the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh reviewed the security plans along with other senior officials. All police personnel assigned to the Dhankhar’s security detail were instructed to remain alert and vigilant at all times. They emphasised the need for strict adherence to duty protocols and for officers to arrive at their designated locations three hours before their shift begins. Any suspicious objects or activities must be reported immediately to higher authorities. Nagnyal also said that only those who have been pre-verified and cleared through anti-sabotage checks will be permitted to enter the event venues. He also instructed them to check all high points and water tanks near the venues thoroughly via the bomb disposal squad and dog squad to prevent any security breaches, with necessary police deployment in these areas. Further instructions were given to the officer in charge of the VVIP route to inspect the entire route ahead of the VP’s visit. The officer must ensure that no construction materials or obstructions are present along the route. Barricading or rope arrangements will be used at intersections with heavy traffic to control vehicular movement during the VVIP’s travel. Nodal police officers were also directed to properly identify and brief all uniformed and plainclothes personnel under their command, the officials said. On Saturday evening, Dhankhar is scheduled to visit the CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum.
