Selja cancels appointments made in State Congress sans AICC’s nod

In what is being seen as a setback to the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara, the Congress State in-charge Kumari Selja has cancelled the appointments made to various positions in the party’s district and block levels in Uttarakhand. In a written communication to Mahara, Selja has stated that it had come to her notice that some temporary/permanent appointments had been made to various positions in the party’s State, district/block levels. All such appointments have been made without the approval of the All India Congress Committee and are cancelled with immediate effect, she stated.

It is pertinent to mention here that Mahara has not yet formed the core team of the PCC. Factionalism and other factors continue to plague the party in Uttarakhand. Political observers opine that the decision taken by Selja at such a time may affect Mahara’s leadership. The party had won the recently held Assembly bypolls in Badrinath and Manglaur. However, factions headed by senior leaders continue to pose problems within the party, though the senior leaders deny any factionalism. The decision to cancel appointments made by Mahara at a time when the party should be preparing for the Kedarnath Assembly bypoll to be held in the near future, may increase anxiety for some leaders.
