Seminar on tribal culture begins at KU

A two-day national seminar on tribal cultural heritage and indigenous practices commenced under the aegis of the Women’s Studies Centre of Kumaun University. Before the seminar began, the women’s studies centre named Mata Jiyarani Women’s Studies Centre was inaugurated by the vice- chancellor of Kumaon University Diwan Singh Rawat, vice- chancellor of Almora University Satpal Singh Bisht and director of Women’s Studies Centre Neeta Bora Sharma.
The keynote speakers- Prof Nusrat Khan of Jamia Millia University and Prof Pinky Sharma of Delhi University- discussed the rights of tribal women and shared their views about the related laws and awareness. They said that with tribal society being an essential part of India’s history and identity, understanding their traditions helps one understand India’s cultural diversity.
On this occasion, the book ‘Uttarakhand Ki Buksa Janjati Bhasha Aur Sahitya’ written by Jagdish Pant, who is a tribal language expert, was released.
