In latest Uttarakhand news, with the Bageshwar by-poll drawing near, the opposition Congress has received a crippling blow as a senior party leader from the region Ranjit Dass switched over to the saffron camp. It is learnt that he met the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and other State senior BJP leaders before his switch was announced. Sources close to Dass said that the Congress having decided not to nominate him for the by-poll and amidst speculation that Congress might give nomination to an Aam Aadmi Party leader left Dass sulking and finally forced him to switch. Political observers opine that Dass enjoys considerable political bases in the constituency and he contested Assembly poll on Congress ticket earlier. Notably, the by-poll is slated on September 5.
