In latest news from Uttarakhand, in a stern action to curb malpractices in the subsidised food supply scheme implementation, the State administration has stripped the assistant commissioner of food Bhagwanpur Haridwar of the economic and administrative powers. The food and civil supply department officers said that the step had been taken against the officer on the basis on the complaint lodged by a ration dealer based in Dada Patti under Bhagwanpur block as per which the officer would make the ration dealers in the far-flung villages shell out money during the unannounced inspection conducted without informing the district department officers. The senior officer was attached to the Food Commission office and a three-member investigation committee was formed under the chairmanship of the regional food controller and it was asked to submit report in 15 days. In the same case, the Bhagwanpur food supply inspector was suspended with immediate effect.
