Senior officials assess ground situation in sinking Joshimath
Secretary disaster management Ranjit Sinha, Deputy Secretary in PMO, Mangesh Ghildiyal visit affected areas

Following the reports of development of cracks in the Joshimath- Auli ropeway and to assess the ground situation the secretary, disaster management Ranjit Kumar Sinha rushed to Joshimath on Sunday. He carried out on-site inspection of land subsidence affected areas like Auli ropeway, Manohar Bagh, Shankaracharya Math and JP Colony. A team of geologists and other senior officials accompanied him. Sinha also inspected the cracks in the houses and on the Shankaracharya Math. He instructed the concerned officials to continuously monitor the pattern of cracks and landslides in the houses. Sinha said that the geophysical study of the affected area is being done by the NGRI Hyderabad. NGRI is studying the underground water channel. After the study, geophysical and hydrological maps would also be made available by NGRI. These maps would be useful for Joshimath’s drainage plan and stabilization plan, he said.
Sinha claimed that the administration is moving step by step towards solving the problems of the Joshimath area affected by the land subsidence. He said the affected families are being shifted to safer places with urgency and the work of marking the affected buildings is going on continuously. “Teams of geologists and experts are engaged in the work of investigating the causes of the landslide. The administration is in constant touch with the affected people. Their basic facilities are being taken care of in the relief camps,’’ he said.
Meanwhile the deputy secretary in the Prime Minister Office (PMO), Mangesh Ghildiyal also arrived in Joshimath on Sunday. He inspected the Auli ropeway, the buildings of hotel Malari Inn and mount view and other affected areas of the city. Ghildiyal also took feedback from the district officers and experts deployed in Joshimath.
