Seven bodies of tourists recovered in Nainital

The police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel recovered seven bodies and rescued 26 persons who were in a bus which met with an accident late on Sunday in Nainital. The officials informed that the accident took place between Magoli and Kaladhungi in Nainital district around 8 PM on Sunday. The bus was reportedly carrying a group of teachers’ families from Haryana’s Hisar area. They were returning to Haryana from Nainital when the accident took place, said the officials. According to them, the disaster control room in Nainital informed the SDRF on Sunday that a bus carrying over 30 people had fallen into a gorge at Nalni on Kaladhungi Road. After getting the information, SDRF rescue teams from various locations left for the accident site to conduct the rescue operation as per the instructions of SDRF commandant Manikant Mishra. The rescue teams found out after reaching the spot that there were 33 people in the said bus that came from Hisar to Nainital. As per the locals, it appeared as if the bus went out of control at the spot and crashed into a gorge about 200 metres deep, said the officials. They said that the SDRF team along with local police conducted the search operations till early Monday morning and retrieved seven bodies besides rescuing 26 people. Those people who were killed include five women, one child and the driver Rameshwar (50). The officials said that seriously injured passengers were shifted to Sushila Tiwari Government Hospital and those with minor injuries were taken to Kaladhungi primary health centre. They said that the bodies of the deceased were handed over to the police by the SDRF who will hand them over to their respective families after completion of the necessary legal procedures.
