PNS | HARIDWAR

Acting on the directive of the Governor lieutenant general (Retd) Gurmit Singh, a team from Jal Sansthan and the Jal Nigam conducted a field inspection of the rivers and ponds at Chilla in Pauri district on Tuesday. During the inspection, it came to light that numerous resorts and hotels in Bhogpur Talla, Pauri have been operating against Pollution Control Department’s regulations, leading to pollution in the area and affecting ponds, reservoirs and even  Ganga. The local residents had previously complained to the Governor on this issue.

These locals said anonymously that they sent a letter to the Governor expressing their concerns about the resorts and hotels mushrooming in Bhogpur Talla under Yamkeshwar block in Pauri Garhwal district. They have been dumping sewage into the reservoirs and rivers with impunity, resulting in their serious pollution, they said. Even the Ganga is not being spared, they added.

Taking cognisance of the complaint, the Governor forwarded it to the departments concerned, recommending actions. Consequently, Jal Nigam sent a team of three assistant engineers to conduct on-ground inspection. The members of the team later said that on the completion of their inspection, they would prepare a report and submit it to the appropriate authority for action.

Speaking on the matter, the project manager Deepak Vats said that as there was no sewage treatment plant they would request the Pollution Control Board to take samples of the allegedly contaminated water for testing.
