The 11th edition of the annual Shaheed Memorial Cricket Tournament under Project Naman of UPES commenced at Bidholi Cricket Ground on Thursday. This initiative- a tribute to the bravehearts of the Indian Armed Forces- extends financial support to their families as a gesture of gratitude, UPES said.
This year, the tournament honours a valiant soldier from the 4 PARA Special Forces Amit Kumar Anthwal from Pauri who embraced death for the nation on April 5, 2020, during an operation in the Kupwara Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
As part of Project Naman, UPES will contribute ₹5 lakh to the family of the brave paratrooper who was only 30 years old when he laid down his life for the nation. Additionally, the university will provide a job opportunity to one family member.
