Shift all liquor shops from main roads: SP Traffic

The Traffic police have identified 11 licensed liquor shops which are causing traffic jams and bottlenecks on the roads in Dehradun. In addition to this, for the auction of liquor shop licenses to be held in the future the superintendent of police (Traffic) has written to the district magistrate suggesting that a no objection certificate should be sought from the Traffic police during the auction. All liquor shops should be shifted away from main roads and in future should not be opened in such locations, he said.
According to the police, it is regularly seen in both urban and rural areas that customers park their vehicles in a disorderly manner on the road while making purchases from liquor shops. This hampers the flow of traffic and causes considerable inconvenience to the general public. As the width of roads in the district is not much, such parking of vehicles by liquor customers is causing traffic jams. In the past, the traffic police had imposed challans on shops where such traffic jams are being caused by improperly parked vehicles of customers. However, this action has not brought about the desired result.
SP Traffic Akshay Konde said, “Vehicles are parked outside every liquor shop in the evening. People around such shops often complaint to the police. Apart from shifting such shops, liquor shops should not be opened on any main road in the city in the future,” he said.
