Police arrested a hotel management student in connection with a firing incident in Dehradun’s Patellar area on Thursday. A youth was injured after two rounds of firing during a dispute between two groups in the area. The accused, identified as Rohit, was arrested at Naya Gaon barrier along with the car allegedly used in the incident, police said.

The incident happened near the ITS College road and later near St Jude Chowk on Shimla Bypass Road. Police said the incident was linked to an earlier dispute between two groups of youths. Sahil, who was with Aditya and Sujal, was injured in the second firing and was taken to Mahant Indiresh Hospital for treatment.

According to police, Gurmeet and his associates allegedly opened fire at the youths following the dispute. The accused first fled in a car after people gathered at the spot. The youths then followed them on motorcycles, after which another round of firing took place near St Jude’s Chowk.

Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched a search for the other accused.

The firing has raised concern as it took place in a public area and involved youths who were reportedly known to each other.
