Shoppers reel under irresponsible acts, shopkeepers enjoy free ‘publicity’ in Paltan Bazaar

Despite the concerns expressed by shoppers and the general public regarding the filming of reels at Paltan Bazaar, many local shopkeepers remain unconcerned about the situation. The Pioneer has been highlighting the issue of commuters and shoppers being troubled by the traffic congestion caused by social media novices in the area, shedding light on the dissatisfaction among visitors over the disruption and resulting traffic congestion at Paltan Bazaar. The filming of reels in the market area is disrupting the shopping experience of customers, with creators featuring the faces of the public in their content without proper permission. Responding to this, the Doon Valley Mahanagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal (DVMUVM) had earlier stated that it will convene a meeting with the shopkeepers to address the issue. Regarding this, the president of the DVMUVM, Pankaj Masson said that a recent meeting was held with approximately 20 to 25 shopkeepers. During the meeting, the local shopkeepers did not express any concerns regarding the reel making trend in Paltan Bazaar. Therefore, the organisation has decided not to take any immediate action. However, Masson stated that if this issue is raised in the future by the local shopkeepers, the organisation will address it accordingly.

Several local shopkeepers have expressed that the reel making trend by certain influencers at the Paltan Bazaar serves as a form of free indirect marketing and promotion for their businesses. In response to this, many commuters and shoppers have expressed concerns and requested that the relevant authorities take appropriate action.

A commute Vanshika Jadeja said that the trend of making reels is causing inconvenience for shoppers and commuters like herself. She added that this trend leads to traffic congestion and often hinders shoppers from shopping freely. Jadeja emphasised the importance of officials concerned not only considering the views of shopkeepers, but also taking into account the concerns raised by commuters and shoppers at the market.

Another local resident, Reema Kumari, agreed that making reels is essentially a way for shopkeepers to promote their business through influencers. However, she noted that besides entertainment, negative messages are also being publicised as individuals of all ages visit Paltan Bazaar. Additionally, this trend creates obstacles for shoppers like her to shop conveniently. Kumari urged officials to address this issue with the interests of market visitors, both commuters and shoppers, in mind.
