A short animation film Kashmakash ‘Quandary- Life On the Edge’ made by young men of Uttarakhand is receiving accolades from film critics at several regional, national and international film festivals. The writer and director of the film Deepak Rawat said that it is Uttarakhand’s first animated film and the framing and composition of this seven-minute film are inspired by the paintings of famous 18th-century European painter Van Gogh.

Talking about the film’s story, he said that it is about the irresolution of the husband who does not know whether he should celebrate the birth of a child or grieve the death of his wife who died in childbirth. He said that the film was certified by the Censor board in July last year and since then, it has been screened in several prestigious international film festivals like Seoul Independent Film Festival in South Korea, Saudi Arabia Independent Film Festival, Busan Film Festival, International Film Festival in Singapore and Ajman Film Festival besides some Indian film festivals including Madras Independent Film Festival,  International Film Festival of Maharashtra,  Pink City and  International Jaipur film festival among several others.

He informed that Dehradun based animators Bhupendra Singh Kathait and Rahul Maithani have done the animation work in this film and Shweta Rawat and Atul Vishnoi have done subtitles and voice-over respectively. Talking about his upcoming projects, Rawat said that he and his team are also planning to make a movie on Jagar which is a prominent part of Uttarakhand’s culture. He said that they will also make films on prominent issues of the State like migration that has severely affected mountainous areas.
