A short film- Rains Don’t Make Us Happy Anymore- about the fast-vanishing Jaunsari tribe of Uttarakhand, produced by Sharad Mehra under the banner of Curious Eyes Cinema, is set to make its world premiere on April 10 at the 56th edition of Europe’s foremost documentary festival, Visions du Réel International Film Festival, to be held from April 4 to 13 in Nyon, Switzerland. The film has been written and directed by Yashasvi Juyal.
Mehra said that they were thrilled with their film being chosen for the festival featuring 154 films from a record 57 countries. Juyal said that set in the village Lohari, this film sheds light on the pressing issue of displacement caused by the development of hydroelectric projects and dams in the Himalayas, highlighting the profound impact on both the land and its people. “Their traditions and cultural heritage have gradually declined as younger generations migrate to cities in search of better opportunities,” he added.
Curious Eyes Cinema (CEC) is a new-age production house based in Mumbai.
