Former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has appealed to the general public to come forward for blood donation to tackle the shortage of blood and platelets in the State. He said that public awareness is key to prevent the spread of the disease. In view of the spurt in the demand of blood and platelets due to increase in cases of dengue the former CM is  organising blood donation camps in Dehradun and other parts of the State.

Interacting informally with the media at his residence on Saturday Rawat said that his organisation Devbhoomi Vikas Sansthan has organised 10 blood donation camps in this month and a total of 1,041 units of blood has been collected in these camps. He said that a mega blood donation camp will be organised on October 1 in Amrik Hall Dehradun.

Rawat said that a target of 700 units of blood has been set for the camp which will be attended by the governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh. He said that the participants in the camp will be given a lucky draw coupon in which Scooty, colour TC, cycles and other prizes are on offer for blood donors. Blood bank teams from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh, Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital, Mahant Indiresh hospital, Graphic Era hospital and Subharti hospital will conduct this blood donation camp.

Rawat said that the objective of these camps is to provide help to the patients of dengue. He said that a blood donation camp on the anniversary for first Chief of Defence Staff, late General Bipin Rawat will be organised in Kotdwar.
