In order to alleviate traffic congestion in Mussoorie, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal has instructed the officials concerned to once again start operation of the Kincraig parking facility. Chairing a meeting with officials concerned on Saturday, the DM also directed that a shuttle bus service should be started from the Kincraig parking lot to Library and Picture Palace. Bansal told the officials to facilitate tender for this purpose within ten days. Further, he also instructed the Police department to establish its office and computer network at Kincraig. The police will have access to information regarding the maximum parking capacity of all hotels, he said. The DM added that once a hotel’s parking is full, vehicles will be stopped at Kincraig. The shuttle bus will then transport the persons from Kincraig. In the first phase, the authorities are planning to introduce two buses for the shuttle service.
In addition, he directed the superintendent of police (Traffic) to enforce this system effectively. He stressed that the police will be provided funds by the district administration for any resources they require without delay. The Mussoorie sub divisional magistrate, Traffic SP and executive officer of the Mussoorie municipality were instructed to take action promptly in this matter.
It is pertinent to mention here that the popular hill station Mussoorie suffers from traffic congestion especially when the tourist footfall increases during the weekends, the summer and even during snowfall in the winter.
