SI Bhagwan Singh Mahar to be awarded with MHA police medal

In latest Dehradun news, the sub- inspector of Uttarakhand Police Bhagwan Singh Mahar will be awarded with the police medal for excellence for investigation by the Union ministry of home affairs on the occasion of Independence Day along with some other police personnel. It is learnt that he will be bestowed with the medal for his successful and brisk investigation into an alleged honour killing case which led to the conviction of the accused and their capital punishment in court. Notably, the horrid murder happened in Khanpur in Haridwar district on May 18, 2018. Two brothers and cousin of the deceased Preeti went to her maternal uncle’s house and mercilessly chopped their sister into pieces with an axe for getting married against the wishes of the family. Thereafter, her husband filed a case at Khanpur police station and the investigation was carried out by then sub inspector of the police station Bhagwan Singh Mahar. Acting fast and decisively, he presented the charge-sheet in the court on August 18, 2018. Besides, he presented the witnesses and the forensic evidences against the accused in the court, leading to the additional session judge Khanpur to term the crime as rarest of the rare and pronounce death sentence to the accused under section 302 of Indian Penal Code. In recognition of his investigative feat, the Union ministry of home affairs announced that he would be awarded with its police medal. The director general of Uttarakhand police Ashok Kumar congratulated Mahar on his rare honour.
