Liver disease is among the leading causes of death in India, driven by viral hepatitis, alcohol-related liver disease and a rising burden of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease. Transplantation remains the only definitive treatment for end-stage disease, yet the number of centres offering it remains small relative to need, and patients across Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab have often had to travel to a handful of hospitals in central Delhi for evaluation and surgery.
The unit places particular emphasis on living-donor safety. Every prospective donor undergoes independent medical, psychological and social evaluation and all donor and recipient pairs are cleared by the Authorisation Committee constituted under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994, and its rules.
The hospital’s transplant programme is registered with NOTTO.
Services offered are as follows:
• Living-donor liver transplantation, including laparoscopic and robotic donor hepatectomy
• Deceased-donor and split-liver transplantation
• Paediatric liver transplantation
• Management of acute and acute-on-chronic liver failure
• Surgery for liver, bile duct, gallbladder and pancreatic cancers
• Complex biliary reconstruction and portal hypertension surgery
• Endoscopic and interventional radiology support, including TIPS, TACE and ablation
• Long-term post-transplant follow-up, immunosuppression management and nutrition support
