The Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh (MCR) has installed small signboards across the city providing details about the nearest public toilets to address the issue of open defecation and urination.
The Rishikesh municipal commissioner Shailendra Negi said that in a significant move towards making Rishikesh an Open Defecation Free (ODF) city, the corporation has taken proactive measures to ensure cleanliness and hygiene. He said that a lack of information about the availability and location of public toilets often forces locals, travellers and tourists to resort to open defecation or urination. This not only affects the city’s cleanliness but also tarnishes its image as a prominent spiritual and tourist destination.
Negi said that newly installed boards aim to guide residents and visitors alike to the nearest public conveniences, ensuring that everyone can access these essential facilities. This step is expected to significantly enhance public hygiene and promote a cleaner Rishikesh. It is also expected to increase the points of the corporation in Swacchh Survekshan. Negi said that MCR is making steady progress toward achieving its goal of a cleaner and more sustainable city along with this and other initiatives started in recent months.
