Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the Sikh community has played a significant role in the development of Uttarakhand.

He was addressing a programme organised at Gadarpur on the occasion of martyrdom of Sardar Udham Singh on Friday. In the programme, the CM paid tribute to Sardar Udham Singh by garlanding his statue. In this address the CM said that the sacrifice, courage and patriotism of Udham Singh makes everyone’s chest swell with pride.

“The Jallianwala Bagh massacre was a very sad and dark chapter in Indian history.  Udham Singh resisted that injustice and demonstrated India’s self-respect, courage and indomitable resolve to the entire world. His sacrifice instils patriotism in every Indian and conveys the message of dedication to the nation,’’ he said.

The CM added that the life of martyr Udham Singh inspires courage, self-respect, patriotism and sacrifice. Dhami said that the inspiration of patriotism, service, sacrifice and humanity comes from the sacred words of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. “Guru Sahib’s teachings pave the way for humanity, compassion, truth, brotherhood and selfless service. These teachings are inspiring for the entire nation,’’ he said.

The CM also asked everyone to always keep the ideals of the immortal martyr Udham Singh alive in their hearts and contribute to nation-building by following his path.

Dhami also participated in the Akhand Path and prayed for the prosperity of the state by bowing his head in the Gurudwara.

Minister in-charge of Udham Singh Nagar Pradeep Batra, MLAs Arvind Pandey, Shiv Arora, Trilok Singh Cheema, Mayor Vikas Sharma, Deepak Bali and others attended the programme.
